FAQ – Frequently Asked Questions

Basics

Yes. You’ll receive up to three BackCodes free of charge – valid for life. Each additional BackCode costs €0.99. Products such as dog tags, cards or stickers are optional.

No. You can use the code digitally straight away or print it out and apply it yourself. Physical products are simply a convenience option.

The finder enters your code on backcode.de or scans the QR code. All communication takes place exclusively via BackCode – with no direct contact via email or telephone. You both remain anonymous.

BackCode doesn’t need Bluetooth, GPS or a signal range. You don’t have to actively ‘search’ for anything – the finder will contact you directly via your code. It works wherever there’s an internet connection.

Privacy & Security

Yes. The finder and the owner do not contact each other directly. Messages are sent via BackCode – personal details are not displayed.

No. That’s exactly what BackCode is for: you can get your lost items back without revealing your address or other sensitive information.

Nutzung & Verwaltung

BackCodes can be reused as many times as you like. Ideally, use a separate code for each object so that you can clearly identify your finds.

The title is only visible to you. This way, you can see at a glance what a code is for (e.g. ‘front door key’ or ‘e-bike’).

Yes. You can deactivate (temporarily) or delete (permanently) codes at any time in your account.

Yes. You can display or use your code as a QR code – handy for printing, stickers or engravings. Alternatively, the Finder can simply enter the string of characters.

No problem. Log in: In ‘My BackCodes’ you’ll find all the codes, titles and their status (active/inactive).

Technology & Email

Usually straight away. We forward emails as soon as we receive them. Please check your spam folder if necessary.

No. For data protection reasons, all contact is handled via BackCode. However, you are welcome to include your contact details in your reply if you wish.

The interface is currently available in German and English; further languages are planned. Messages can be sent in any language.

Yes. As long as the finder has internet access, they can enter the code and contact you.

Account & Support

Simply enter your email address and log in using a one-time password (OTP). No password required.

You can delete your account in the settings. All associated codes and messages will be removed.
